Sophie was born in Florence, Italy, on the 15th of September 1969, and brought up in Panzano-in-Chianti, south of Florence. She went to school there until the age of thirteen and then came to England to study for four years. Three of these years were spent at Frensham Heights boarding school for her “O” levels, and then a year in a London college for her“A” levels.
Sophie's art studies were very generic; she studied art at college but for the rest she is self taught over the years. She became involved with painting and decorating purely by chance when she began to work for a carpenter's workshop where they wanted to do a line in painted furniture. SheI began working for them at the age of 19, spent 6 years with them, and then opened her Italian studio in 1995 in Greve in Chianti. She has been working independently since then. She paints on wood and canvas, and also does frescoes in situ on furniture, walls and any surface amenable to painting.
Sophie lives in Chianti and is expecting her first child, a little girl, in 2011.
In the last few years, she has won a few prizes and participated in various events.The most important one of these was the Intenational Trompe l’Oeil Festival in Lodi (Milan), in 2007. This is where she painted her Ram Fountain, and won the “Architects of Lodi (MI)” prize for the “realistic effect of the painting”. (www.trompeloeilfestival.com).
Other prizes were at the Panzano Art festival, one year the 3rd prize and then in 2008 1st prize.
The painting of Castilion della pescaia got a special mention at an event she participated in at the Abbazia di Farfa (Rome).
In 2009 she was invited by a village called Marentino, near Turin, to go and paint a huge painting of about 3 meters by 4,5 meters, on one of their village building walls!
In 2010 she did a painting for a another town up north (on panel this time) called Sommo (Pavia), and even though she was originally not in the competition, in the end she was third prize because the piece was so universally appreciated!
